1999-11-06 Today was mostly uneventful. I started out just south of Bainbridge, Georgia. I followed 97 to 302 across the border to 267 to Quincy, Florida. The scenery was nice. From Quincy, I followed 12 west. I saw many pine trees, all in rows, all the same height. Highway 12 ran into 20 at Bristol, where I saw more pine trees. As I travelled along 20, I saw miles and miles of short pine trees and tall pine trees and mid-size pine trees and a few patches of odd-size pine trees. From 20, I took 231 south to Youngstown and then 388 west. I saw more pine trees. Now I'm camping just west of Youngstown in (you guessed it) pine trees.Even though I goofed off for a lot of the day because my ankles were sore, it looks like I still managed to bike about 80 miles. Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I may just find myself a beach and chill. I do seem to have more people asking about my route. But their expressions aren't nearly as dramatic when I tell them I'm from Milwaukee as they were even in Kentucky. Maybe I've just gone too far for them to be surprised. Or maybe a lot of people come through here on bikes. I bought bug spray, which I didn't need. I broke down and bought sun screen from an Indian clerk named Jerry (with a close-enough shrug). My white shoulders started getting hit pretty hard when I wore my tank top yesterday and today. So how's the weather up north? And my flashlight batteries just died and I had forgotten to buy more and typing in the dark is a pain, so good night. |
